Chicago, IL — Jan. 16, 2026 — The Legal Marketing Association (LMA) has announced the formation of its new Industry Impact Committee, a strategic initiative designed to elevate the voice of legal marketing and business development professionals across the legal industry.
Established in direct support of LMA’s new Strategic Plan that emphasizes Elevating the Voice of LMA, the Industry Impact Committee will serve as a platform for advancing the association’s external influence through thought leadership, strengthening engagement with legal media and extending LMA’s influence beyond its membership. The committee brings together senior leaders from law firms, consultancies and professional services organizations to help position LMA as a valued, trusted source on the business of law and the evolving role of marketing and business development within it.
“Legal marketing and business development professionals play a critical role in how law firms grow and compete, but that expertise isn’t always visible in broader industry conversations,” said Azeema Batchelor of Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, co-chair of the new committee. “The Industry Impact Committee is focused on elevating that insight and ensuring LMA’s members are part of the dialogue shaping the future of the profession.”
“Collectively as an organization, we have such a deep bench of knowledge and expertise that is valuable to the entire legal industry. I believe there is no greater resource when it comes to the legal marketing profession than LMA,” said Danielle Smith, LMA International Board of Directors Liaison for the Industry Impact Committee. “Now our members have an opportunity through this committee to lead broader industry discussions, across media, law firms and other legal organizations, where critical decisions about the business of law are being made.”
Advancing Thought Leadership and Media Engagement
A central focus of the committee’s work is the development of proprietary LMA knowledge that reflects the trends and insights of the profession. Planned initiatives include a data-driven research report and an editorial-based thought leadership piece, with publication and promotion planned in a future phase of the committee’s work.
The committee will also enhance LMA’s media engagement through quarterly media roundtables, bringing together legal journalists and LMA subject-matter experts to discuss timely issues affecting law firms and professional services organizations. In addition, the committee will establish a more formalized media process to support consistent, thoughtful engagement with press inquiries and opportunities.
“Legal marketing and business development professionals have a front-row seat to how law firms actually grow — what works, what doesn’t and where change is really happening,” said Elizabeth Brick of Coterie Strategies, committee co-chair. “The Industry Impact Committee creates a way to elevate those insights and to collaborate with organizations across the legal industry, with a shared goal of helping lawyers and law firms adapt how they practice so they’re better equipped to meet the needs of both clients and the profession in the years ahead.”
Building Strategic Partnerships and Expanding Reach
Beyond media and thought leadership, the Industry Impact Committee will pursue strategic partnerships with attorney-led and legal professional services organizations. Planned initiatives include co-branded programs, shared content opportunities and a ready-to-deliver educational program introducing best practices in legal marketing and business development to attorney audiences.
The committee will also explore outreach to undergraduate communication and marketing programs to introduce students to careers in legal marketing and business development and help build a future talent pipeline for the profession.
